So we are on water dish plan #52......Though our puppy does not have a water dish in her nighttime kennel we do have one in the kennel that she spends time in periodically throughout the day. She spills her water in one of two ways. The first is she loves to lay her head on the edge when she is sleeping and as a result whenever she changes position (and she is a VERY restless sleeper) she spills it everywhere. That is the most common way she spills it. The second way is that she loves to pick it up. We have tried the kind of dish that hangs on the edge of the kennel (she was able to get it out of the holder) the spash proof bowl from petco (not spill proof though when it is upside down) and we have tried zip tying various water bowls to the kennel (not a lot of success there either). The thing is we live in phoenix and it has been over 100 for months and over 110 for the last couple of weeks. I really don't want to restrict her water at all by taking it out when i have to go out during the day or she needs a time out - and though I do take it out when she is just playing in it, she often spills when she is sleeping - not really her fault!
Just wondering if anyone had the same thing happen and if they found a water bowl that preventing constant spilling Thanks! |

My daughter has a Beagle who spills his water when crated. She purchased a water bottle that is made for dogs. Works in the same way it does for rodents and rabbits - the dog licks it and gets water.
Her Beagle is an older dog, and doesn't chew on it. So I'm not sure how it'd work for a puppy.

All my dogs but one know how to politely and properly drink water, the other one sticks her entire head in, grabs as much as she can then walks away and drops most of it on the floor.
This bowl has worked great for me. You can see a demo of it on Leerburg. They charge too much so you can get it cheaper several other places. It's hard to see from the pic but there is a piece in the middle that floats so only a small portion is on top until they lick it which pushes that piece down (see Leerburg video). It comes with velocro so it can't be picked up. They aren't that big (even the large) so I have 3 of them in the house. |

LoL, I remember when Stella was very young she would either sleep up against her water bowl, or her head on the water bowl. Then when she was awake she would splash the water everywhere.
She seems to have outgrown her water bowl obsession.
