Default Martingale rant

I love martingales -- specifically the ones with the quick snap and chain. The adjust, slide over head, adjust again thing does NOT work for me or my squirmy bouncy pup. Previously, I have found amazing ones through cetacea. However, my pup is in some hideous in between stage. His neck is small enough to warrant the thinner width. I don't want a thinner width it is not comfortable and the chain is wimpy. Next size up, waaayyy too big. Already have that one from my previous dog who passed. Found another company offering them closer in size, wider width, still too big. I have back to back camping these next two weekends. I need a solid comfortable martingale, NOW. Yesterday I ended up taking apart and resewing the collar on the interior portion (not the places that receive the most force). Glue to secure, sewing, and the slider clip slipped over that will be secure. Was not pleased to have to alter the collar. Urg. I have some room for growth, about 1/2 what there should be and then I either have to buy another one or hopefully bump to the one I have for the rest of his adult life. And sizing martingales? Sheesh. They only go by the measurement of the strap and not the chain. Wouldn't it be just as easy to choose the smallest setting and measure and then slide out to largest to measure including chain? Doesn't that make more sense? OK -- rant over. Thank you for listening.
