Default A Comfortable, Affordable, and large Dog Bed

We got rid of our couch which was essentially the dog's couch. Thinking back I wish we wouldn't have. We did however keep a cushion from it thinking it'd be enough. The cushion is 27x36" and though Blitz can lay on it.. he can't spread out like he likes without rolling off of it and in most positions his body is hanging off somewhere. So for the sake of him and the new couches we don't want him sleeping on.. I need to invest in a proper alternative. Blitz likes to lay on his back and in weird positions which generally take up the better part of a standard sized couch. We have concrete floors so aside from being large.. it needs to be padded enough or maybe elevated. I've been looking around, but most things have mixed reviews and I'm not sure who to believe lol. Last, but not least.. price.. I really don't want to spend more than $100.

I'm sure there are some other GSD parents here that have had this problem and hopefully have solved this. Please let me know!

Thanks

Check out the Foster and Smith site - Deluxe Orthopedic Pad, I'm going to get one for Frodo when my husband comes home. It costs 99.99 and they offer free shipping (no matter the size) The size is 35x50 for the XL. That's plenty of room for my dog and he is very tall. Don't let the word pad fool you, its orthopedic and pretty thick.

I made Matty an elevated bed using PVC and outside upholstery...no sewing, just a little cutting of the pvc....around $40...you actually fold the fabric several to make a strong edge before screwing into the pvc...works great

Costco beds are less than $30, they are made of good quality materials and holding up really well. I've washed it a number of times (Odin had a lot of accidents) and it's still good as new.

Dog Beds | Kuranda Dog Beds
A bit over $100 but I doubt you would ever need another bed.
They also have a warranty

Also recommend Foster & Smith
They often have sales and beds on clearance

Here is what I do, it is affordable (maybe $40 tops) and comfortable (my dogs try to be the first dog up to bed so they can get the dog bed). I get one of those cheap egg carton style mattress toppers. An even cheaper alternative is if you already have one, buy yourself a new one and use the old one for the dogs. I use a twin one, then I fold it into thirds. Then I take a blanket (again you could buy one, but I have a stash of old blankets that are designated dog bedding), spread out the blanket, put the folded foam in the middle, and then wrap it like a present. Flip it over and voila! Dog bed. When it gets dirt just unwrap and machine wash the blanket. Actually, I originally had my crafty sister sew a cover with a zipper, but I think someone pooped on it or something so now I just wrap the folded foam with a spare blanket.

Could you post a photo of the bed...that sounds cool but I need a visual to be able to recreate it.

The Costco beds (flat square ones) are nice and big. I would not recommend the ones that are circular and filled with cotton (or whatever it's stuffed with). The filling moves around inside and you get a lumpy bed.
I recently got one filled with a chunk of thick egg crate foam at Petco. It's basically just a flat mat. My dogs love it and it was $50.

I will try to post pictures tonight...if you look up...how to make elevated dog beds...there are a lot of different instructions out there...I used one that used PVC poles ...and self tapping screws with flat heads and folded the fabric several times to make it strong...without sewing...
