I think you have found that they are not cutting blades, it is confusing, is it not? I use a furminator on my long haired GSD. They are good and I have never had to do the same amount if grooming with him, as I did with my previous GSD. It used to take 4 times as long plus more frquently. Well done on a good prize.

I am not familiar with that particular tool, but if it's like a Furminator, it doesn't have the cutting part of the blade. If this one does have the cutter still on the blade, it will cut hair and I wouldn't use it unless you want to do some major thinning on the coat.

It looks like your dog is looking at all that fur and saying "What happened to me?" :-p

Isn't it a nice feeling after you brush/comb your dog outside and see all that hair? I always think of the fact that I won't be vacuuming that hair up off the floor/furniture/me/etc!

I think that is all a furminator is - a number 40 blade withouth the cutting knife - I have deshedded by holding a clipper blade (we have a clipper) in my hand.

Like the furminator but I think it cuts too much top coat so I would not use it that much. I just use a slicker/undercoat rake

If it's cutting coat, you're not using it right. You do need to use a light hand with the Furminator, much less pressure than you'd use with a slicker or rake. It's like using a stripping knife, as done on terriers--done correctly, it pulls dead hair out but doesn't break live hair.

yeah, I had a friend who grooms show me how to use it. it takes off more than the shedding blade
Amazon.com: Safari Dual Shedding Blade - Medium: Kitchen & Dining Amazon.com: Safari Dual Shedding Blade - Medium: Kitchen & Dining
but doesn't cut the hair.
I really like it. The difference has been amazing and I only used it once! She said once a month would probably be the most I'd have to use it, maybe less. Except when they blow coat, then might need a little bit more often.

I have used that last kind for years - decades - during coat blowing season

Oh yeah, the shedding blade is great too! I find it a little unwieldy, but it does pull out dead hair like nobody's business.
