We have a dog that was traumatized by a trainer and the prong collar. So we have been instructed to not use the prong collar. He is very afraid of us touching his neck area as well due to this. Our trainer told us to get a harness that buckles in front. We had good luck with Jackson not pulling on the prong, but without and using just a regular collar he pulls me over.
I looked at the Gentle Leader Easy Walk-but can someone explain how it keeps them from pulling ? or how does it give me more control? I am supposed to start working on -if he pulls, then I stop. when leash is loose, I can move forward and so forth..

I have the sensations front clip harness(I got it when Onyx was young and very reactive), though I never use it now. I went with the best quality, and it still didn't feel strong enough for her 90# of muscle.

I've used the Easy Walk with a lab-beagle mix and it was amazing - he had no sensation in his neck apparently! I've always wanted to try the Sensation but have had good luck with the EW. I was not able to wean him off the tool to a buckle collar, we'll see if his family can.

Hi Kimi, I had the same problem with my 2 yr old male and also tried the front connection type harness. The problem was I couldn't get the fitting tight enough because my dog is really strong. The front connection rotated to the side a little and it wasn't as effective. Try the no pull harness offered by a company called Petnovate (www.petnovate.com). The video really helps to explain how the harness works and I can understand the physics of how it stops the pulling. Good Luck!

This one is supposed to be very good, I haven't tried it though: No Pull Training Harness - Patented Design - Wiggles Wags & Whiskers
I have Sense-ation harnesses and I do like them, but I use them mostly for puppies, to get more rewardable behavior than I can with just a flat collar, to reinforce good leash skills. They will definitely not stop pulling entirely, especially with an older, stronger dog who has become accustomed to pulling. The way they work is that with a leash connection at the chest, pulling will turn them back towards you rather than allowing them to surge straight forward. But they can still pull. Check out my posts on this thread for tips on teaching loose leash walking: Please critique my training method. Will it work? Any special equipment is only a crutch unless you also train leash walking skills. Hopefully a front hook harness will give you enough more control over a flat collar so you can continue training. Read about the Silky Leash technique - it works very well, as do all the methods I linked to.
