Default HS collar?

Thoughts and experiences with the HS prong collar with snap and live ring(buckle type) vs. quick release or regular martingale?

I want to order Wolf a new HS prong collar and since I have carpal tunnel in my hands, I have been contemplating the buckle type.

I would appreciate any input.

I have recently tried both and I can tell you that for my dog the HS quick release prong is much more effective than the HS buckle type with live ring. I don't know what it was but with the buckle type (same size links) he won't even feel a correction no matter how hard you'd yank that chain (not that I went that far) whereas with the "standard" prong with quick release we are back to the "steering wheel for dogs" metaphor where a small pop will make him fix himself or pay attention whereas a large jerk (again didn't try it ) will elicit a yelp.

I've been recommending everyone with hard dogs to avoid the buckle type HS collars and go for the quick release but again your mileage may vary.

Thanks. Hope I get different results. I have already ordered it.

Could you post a link to which buckle-type it is? There are a few of them, and some of them produce very different results from one another.

Sorry, I am VERY computer illiterate and don't have a clue how to post a link. It took me 6 mos. to figure out how to put on pic on the forum. LOL I ordered it from dogsport gear and it is a HS Stainless Steel Prong Collar with snap and live ring, item #14710000.

IMO, the regular old style prong is the way to go. The ones with the buckles do not work the same, and thus are not as versatile due to the lack of smooth and effectively working live and dead ring action. The snaps on the quick release ones are an area of weakness. These can freeze up or break, causing the collar to pop open. The french scissors snap quick release being very prone to this.

I agree the regular old style herm springer prong has a flat plate that is EASY to fit the prongs in. I have had that stupid french snap fail. They are so much nicer than the ones you buy at the pet store and very easy to use.
