I really don't know where to put this so I'll put it here. Does anyone have or had any problems with wire kennels making the hair on the base of the tail stand up? I brush my dog every day. I think I'm going to go with a plastic carrirer type crate, but the one his size is expensive!

If you want a plastic kennel, get a used one off Craigslist. They can be had for about 1/3 the price of a new one.

I also support CL, especially if you have a young pup that will outgrow a crate.
But I've only been able to find wire crates sized for GSDs off CL for good prices, not many have a 500 or larger because they are pricey and not as available in the big box pet shops like a wire is. I bought both my 500 and 700varikennels new from my local mom & pop store(they matched prices that I brought in from internet sites). If you do go the CL route, be sure to disinfect bigtime. |

If you already have the wire crate, how about some plexiglass or something around the bottom half of the crate ziptied in place? Would that be cheaper than a new crate?

My Bella is in a wire crate, she is 2 years old now. she wants to go in it so that is where she sleeps and no problems with it making her fur stand up on any part of her body. I got a big vari 700 for Bo very sturdy at dog.com paid $ 110 for it a year ago he broke his wire crate but he is a big strong boy.

Farm and fleet has the 42" one on sale for $59.95. I have never seen a folding crate this low. Bought one for Peaches, she is a small female about 55lbs, and she couldn't be happier. No problem with fur standing up. It seems the wire cages have a larger interior and floor space then the plastic. It would seem better to make a wall out of plexi or finished plywood, then to spend the extra money on the plastic crates.
