I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't locate anything.
![]() All you people with long haired GSD's, I would like to know what type of collar do you all use that works well in all that hair, for walking & training? I have been using a leather slip, choke or prong collar. Thanks

I like rolled leather collars for long hair. I actually like them on short hair dogs as well.

Stosh is long-coated too and it's a pain getting the prong on and off with all that fur. I saw a trainer use a nylon or plastic prong once and I'm thinking that might be easier. I use a regular nylon flat collar but I'm going to try a leather rolled one.

For Kacie, I do use the larger gauge prong, it doesn't tangle up like the medium one. She only wears a collar when off property, she wears a flat nylon with tags along with the prong. I don't spend much on collars other than for training, so she's had the same collar since I got her!

I don't wear collars at home and I do wear a rolled collar when we are out and about.

I worked Boss/LC with the larger prong tonight and it worked very well. I have a halti and have used it often just not on this boy. I needed a bit more to keep/get his attention. I also use a 1/2" flat leather slip collar with a snap that works very well and the hair doesn't seem to get tangled in it. I have been experimenting with collars the last few days.

I have both but I like the look of a rolled leather collar. It basically disappears and I like that look.
