I use a safety-tested dog seatbelt in the car rather than a crate. The dog cannot go where they shouldn't because they are buckled in to the seat.

I think good seat belts are as good as a crate. For me it just doesn't make sense b/c my dogs have to be crated anyway (already were destroying the upholstery of my old car during SchH, and I would not trust that they couldn't chew through the belt/harness during a dog show and then jump out the window).

Exactly. Maybe it's harsh but as much as I love my dogs I also need to lookout for myself and my human passengers. I was in a near-accident with Kenya in the back seat and if she had been about 6 inches to her left she would have either beaned me and knocked me out or worse, or flown through the windshield. A loose dog in an accident is like a block of cement flying at your face.
I agree. We use a dog seatbelt. My car does ot move unless everyone is fastened in their seatblets for the reason you state. I also tell my kids that too. Do not take anyone in your car that will not do up a seatbelt, dog included.

I've actually had people laugh at me when I tell them that I buckle up my dog. Ithen go on to ask them if they want an 75 lb. dog flying into them while they are sitting in the front seat. It's amazing when I turn it around to be about them that they change their attitude.

When Dakota was small we would put her in the crate. Now a full size one takes way too much room.
