For general walking, trailing, agitation work...?
IMHO all dogs should have a good fitting flat collar.

We have used the Easy Walk by Gentle Leader and love them. Lately however I have just been using the flat collars as my two are well behaved enough on them. If your pup(s) are a little to rambunctious on the walk, perhaps a harness for awhile, although training is more important.

Depends on the dog, for some a collar is fine, others need a harness as they will try to slip a collar, or need the extra control until trained.
That easy walk is good one I hear. I've never needed a harness though. |

I am not a big advocate of gentle leaders, they work but with the possibility of neck injuries. Choke chains carry the probability of possible tranchea injury. Your best best is a flat collar for general walking and for dogs that are pullers or unruly, a properly fitted pinch collar may work better.
