Default purchasing a crate

Where would you all recommend getting a crate from? I need to get one for Naudia and was just looking at walmart online, but the reviews aren't that great. I am thinking she might be able to use a 36" - Zisso came to me with his crate which is a 42" and they are the same height so maybe I should get one to match his? Should I just go to PetSmart and get one from them? I would like to save as much as possible, but also need to be sure it is secure because she does have seperation anxieties.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Try Craigslist. Just wash it with diluted bleach before using it.

Preface:
- i avoid purchasing "new" whenever i can
- you didn't mention wire or plastic (by "crate" i assumed wire)
- i'm not familiar with Washington at all, but...

these are a few that i found on craigslist:

dupont - http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/hsh/1202076941.html
olympia - http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/pet/1200138439.html
graham - http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/for/1200857207.html (plastic)
federal way - http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/for/1198451209.html (plastic)

hope that helps! i'm sure there are others, i looked under "pets" and "for sale"

I just wait for a sale. A few weeks ago Chow Hound had 20% off crates sale. Or I use Amazon.

I've seen a few on Craigslist but never ones I like and I don't have time to be arranging meetups and driving all over the city. I'm far too lazy for that!

Thanks every one
I had seen the one in Dupont, but not the one in Olympia. I would like at least two doors on it so they can get in from wither way, depending on if it is indoors or in my truck-fitting two in the bed of a Ford Ranger extended cab (short bed) is going to be tricky! And there is no way they will both fit in behind the seats either I will be looking for a canopy too, if there is one that will allow for the height of the crates...gosh..the things I had NOT thought of

Too funny! I don't mind right now meeting with someone to get one cheap.

Yeah I guess the deals I've seen haven't been worth driving 45 minutes each way to pick up a crate that is already somewhat rusty. Also, I'm kind of anal and I like my crates in the house to match, so I have three of the same (Midwest 42" iCrate, black wire, ~$80 each). I looked on Craigstlist when I needed expens but found them NEW for $30 and free shipping.

I am now thinking that I should get a 36" Midwest iCrate. The reason I say 36" is because that is all that will fit in my truck and they would still have room in it to be comfy. I have an extended cab, so can't take both dogs in the cab, so was thinking they can ride in their crates in the back?

If I do that the only way the 42" will fit is length wise, then there is just enough room to put the 2nd crate in the opposite direction. Either that or get a bigger truck which I really can't afford to do being unemployed. Also, I need to remodel my (rented) house to accomodate getting the 42" one in...it really sucks bringing it in the door-quite a tight squeeze. I know that either way, I need to get the 2nd crate very soon so that at bedtime she has a bed to go to. Z loves his crate at night and I feel like she feels displaced. She tries to go in with him but it's not comfy for two in there, poor baby. Maybe I will just go buy a new one tomorrow.

I have a Toyota Tacoma extend cab and both my GSDs can ride together in the back seat (which I have retrofitted with a board so it's flat) but it's pretty chummy. And I agree that dogs riding crated are safer - although I'm not sure how safe the back of the truck is, even with a cap. I ride with dogs back there on transports. Personally, I think plastic crates are safer than wire for vehicles, especially in the back of a truck. I'm worried the wire crates could skewer the dog in an accident.

As far as what fits, I can get two of the "Intermediate" Petmate (I think 32 inch?) crates side by side in the back of my truck but not the 36 inch ones. If I use that size, I have to turn them sideways. I have a high rise topper but even when I didn't, the height of the back was never a problem, just the width.

Not sure how your truck size compares, but just throwing all that out there.

Whatever you buy, if you buy new check brands - and make sure you're not looking at the same basic crate but with a fancier spin (Petmate has about a million versions). Our Petsmart sells identical crates to our Walmart but the ones at Walmart are a LOT cheaper.
