2 yo ears up and down

Shelby is my 2 year old GSD, or GSD mix. (Shelter pup, so unsure.) Her ears went through the typical GSD puppy stages - teepee, Russian hat, one up, both up, both down. Her ears are HUGE. Shelby's ears never went up and stayed up.

At 2 years old, her ears are floppy, most of the time. But, she can put them up, if she wants too. Sometimes she will go all day with one ear up, or the other. Sometimes both ears are up. If it matters, Shelby has long hair.

My question is, why do her ears go up at all? I figured by this point, they just wouldn't be able to go up, but they obviously can. My Shelby, she is a rare breed. lol!

I have no answers other than the GSD gene is still trying. For my own selfish reasons would love a picture of her though.

My dog before Samson would have a floppy right ear when he was tired.I could always tell when he'd had enough exercise, that ear would begin to droop.

I don't know about long haired GSD but sometimes with a few Yorkies we had sometimes their ears would have to be shaved because the fur would cause them to be too heavy and flop over.

Photobucket does let you resize images, or you can use the thumbnail option and people can click the image to view a larger one.

You are adorable, Bramble. You think I understand photobucket and thumbnails. lol! You'll have to talk to my kids. You have no idea how dumb I really am. Thank you for trying though.
