Default Help...

Phoenix is only 4 1/2 months old now. Her ears showed signs of going up when she was three months but that only lasted 2 weeks. They are flopped over to the side like labs ears. We went to the vet yesterday who said her ears may never go up at this point because she is showing no signs of them going up at all for weeks. I have noticed a little bit of blood on her toys and in her mouth but the ears were flopped back down before this had even started. Does anyone have any suggestions? I will post pics soon.

I don't know what to do about the ears except maybe prop them up. The blood is most likely from teething.

I am so paranoid about ears,,I know I know, some say don't worry they'll come up, some don't come up till 5, 6, 8 months..

That is no good for me...All my gsd's ears have been up by the time they are 12 weeks old, and have never dropped after that..

If they aren't up by 12 weeks, me personally, I'm gonna get out the tape and the glue..

Default ears and teething

There is so much skeletal growth going on at your puppy's age and, when coupled with the development of adult teeth, the ears often go up and down. The ears are the last place in a dog's body to keep their calcium stores that keep the cartilage strong and this is why they will go up and down while puppies are both teething and experiencing so much skeletal growth. You could always give your pup some yogurt, cheese or cottage cheese to help with their need for more digestible calcium at this stage of her life.

Thank you guys so much for the adivce, i will try the yogurt tonight. I tell her all the time while playing with her ears to get used to people touching them that, "all the other doggies are going to make fun of you if dont get those ears up". her class has several gsds and malanois in it lol.

Kahns left ear just finally stood up and is staying up now and he is 5 months old. His ears went up and down A LOT! My breeder suggests posting the ears at this age if they are not showing the signs of going up. I havent personally looked but one of the members of our club had the problem with his dogs ears and he found a site that has molds that are designed for their ears and used those to post them and it worked great.

Don't freak out yet (I know it's hard not to!), but if they were showing signs of coming up I wouldn't be too worried. Minnie was almost 8 months old before hers decided to stay up for good. Tanner, well, his have been up from day 2. You just can't tell! We tried to glue Minnie's but it never stayed in, so they came up on their own.
