I've been thinking about switching my dog to raw food and came across "Big Country Raw" premixed (meat, organs, Vegetables etc) that is available in stores here in Ottawa, Canada. Has anyone tried this and have any opinions/advice in regards to this brand? My pup (2.5 years old) has been on Acana for most of his life but to be honest he's starting to be picky about eating it lately unless we put toppers on it. Tried different flavours, different brands(Fromm, Orijen) and he's never been food motivated, he does eat twice a day but it takes some extras to get him to finish. we just took him to the vet for his annual check up and he's perfectly healthy, bloodwork (basic tests) and stool results came in all normal so its not for health reasons, just wanted him to enjoy his food. Thanks
I do remember seeing someone mention this brand. Did you do a search and see if it comes up?
I feed raw and I have a Sojos veggie mix that I make and then put in ice cube trays. Once frozen I feed a couple cubes a couple times a week to those that can have it. I don't give it daily.
I know the company, local to the GTA . I believe they are based in the Niagara region and use local antibiotic free meat .
I like their salmon lamb turkey mix -- I mean my old cat likes it .
What are your thoughts on the whole salmon in North American waters carries Japanesse tapeworm. It was talked about for humans, but can dogs get that too?
I use BCR and have done so for well over one year. They deliver and my dogs love the food . It's human grade , high quality. I highly recommend them . I have tried others but prefer them.
Thank you guys, I know there is a lot of good companies but a lot don't deliver to Canada and this one has a few distributors near me so its very convenient. Rocky and Carmen do I need to add vitamins and/or minerals to this food or is it complete ?
I already do prebiotics a couple of times a week.
Carmen has more expertise than me by far here but I do add Herring Oil (from BCR) and coconut oil daily. I have read quite a bit of info that says it can help with many things.
