Underweight after 2 surgeries

When my puppy was 5 months old he had emergency exploratory surgery for an intestinal blockage. A few weeks later he went back for emergency intussusception surgery, now he only has about half his intestines left from the intussusception. Needless to say he is a little underweight and undersized. He is 39 lbs now at 7 months old. Should I be worried about his weight? Should he be getting something special in his diet to hep him gain weight? Since he is missing all of those intestines should I be giving him a vitamin, or would that cause more harm than good. I am worried about him growing too fast. I am feeding him 1 1/2 cups of food 3x a day which I feel is almost too much food. He is getting Taste of the Wild.

His stool is softer than it normally was prior to the surgery, but I can pick it up out of the grass with a bag with out leaving any behind, if that makes sense. I try not to feed him anything but his kibble, that is what he gets for treats as well, so as not to upset his stomach. I did give him a piece of baby carrot that was about 1/4 inch thick about a week ago and he got diarrhea that night and the next morning as a result. He can eat small pieces of banana without any adverse effects, so it seems to be just "hard" food that doesn't set well with him. We are just nearing the end of his first bag of TOTW, so not too long. He was eating Fromm before that.

IMHO, I'd go back to feeding Fromm's and add a Digestive Enzyme and ProBiotic.
*A Digestive Enzyme helps system assimilate food - It's possible your dog is not getting everything out of his food resulting in him being underweight.
*A ProBiotic keeps the "good bacteria" in the gut which is SO important since about 75% of the immune system lies in the gut! The immune system must be strong to ward off invaders! Especially since your dog has lost half of his intestines!!!
*TOTW is manufactured by the Diamond Company who had the HUGE recall for Un-sanitary conditions a couple of years ago (TOTW included). I don't trust them AT ALL or the quality of the ingredients they purchase for their foods!
*Fromm's is used by MANY on this blog, which shows the confidence of the company that makes it and especially the good outcome of the health of their dogs.

The following are 2 companies that use high quality (some organic) "Whole, Real Foods" in their products.
Sunday Sundae: (Digestive Enzyme/ProBiotic Combo) http://ineedthat.corecommerce.com/Sunday-Sundae.html
Gut Sense: (ProBiotic) GutSense - certified organic probiotic for dogs

You were asking about adding supplements.
the companies I referenced above also produce other fantastic products!

Dr. Dobias’ products:

If you do consider some of the products, introduce them very slowly and in smaller amounts, working up to suggested doses, until your dogs system adjusts to them.
