Sunflower oil for dogs?

My mother started a conversation GSD owner at Wal-mart today who said she gave her dog Sunflower oil. She said her dog stopped having itchy and irritated skin all the time. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm curious, I've never heard of giving sunflower oil to dogs. :p

I haven't been a fan of feeding sunflower oil. I've found that it is too high in omega-6 fatty acids. A diet too rich in omega-6 fatty acids with not enough omega-3's can cause inflammation. I stick with fish oils, coconut oil, or flaxseed oil.

Thanks! Yeah, I don't have a GSD yet, but I give fish oil to my parents' westie :)
