Default Won't eat without hamburger

Gunther has gotten so used to having hamburger and real meat that he isn't touching the bowl of food I just made for him. I don't have any hamburger available, just some frozen pork that will take too long to thaw and cook. Even if I had something I could sprinkle on the mixture he still wouldn't eat it because there's no meat. I'm really trying to slowly introduce the new food and I can hear his tummy growling when I put my head on him. But he's gotten so spoiled with the meat in the bowl that I don't know how to get him to eat this. Maybe if I spoon feed him? Ok, I may be losing my sanity here.

Any quick ideas on making this bowl of meatless food more appealing? He actually went and rang the bells to go eat grass instead. I think I'm offended.

he will eat when he gets hungry
if you always add something to it he will not learn to eat it by itself and you will create a bigger and ongoing problem

Chase him around the yard with a turkey leg, he will get tired and eat eventually.

Seriously, about hamburger. the fat content is high as you know - even for a dog, any dog. Tire him out and sprinkle a little less each day, and little less, and wean him off the beef. If he get's too thin the resume the previous diet. You dog is smart, mine got it but good yesterday, when she ran the other way, I told her for that, I will trade her in for a Yorkie !

This exactly^^

Keep upping the add-ins and you create a monster - like I did - an almost 4 yr old spoiled brat about food.

I am so shocked.... I expected to wake up to cruel unwarranted criticism from a lot of people on here. I almost don't know how to react. You made me laugh. I really can see myself chasing him around the yard with a turkey leg

Twyla, thanks... Good to know I'm not the only one who spoils their dog a little too much and then regrets it lol.

Probably best advice anyone has ever given on here. haha Don't see anyway this could go wrong. Nope. Definitely should go with the lasso in the other hand.

Took Gunther to E.R. clinic today. They found a bacteria and put him on an anti-biotic to see if that helps at all. Will follow up at my vet for blood work once I see the effects of the anti-biotics.
