Default Diarrhea in puppy - some food choices

Hi. I know this thread is old, but can't seem to figure out how to start a new one. I was hoping someone can help me with my dogs diarrhea issues. We got him at 12 weeks and he's now 5 months old....it started a week after we got him home. We have tried different foods, has been tested for so many things, parasites, etc. bloodwork was taken to see if it was genetic, came back negative. He was dewormed, has been on metronidazole and NOTHING HAS HELPED. trying to find the right food for him, but I read so many conflicting things. Give him chicken, don't give him chicken, etc. can someone recommend good food for him to try besides a raw diet. He will start tylan on Monday. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I moved this to its own thread.

Tylan is great - I would ask about a 30 day treatment in case it is SIBO/ARD.

Has your puppy been de-wormed?

How much do you feed - overfeeding is another reason for diarrhea but it sounds like you are being really thorough - it's just an easy thing to do!

I like bland/mild foods for puppies. Foods with less ingredients.

This is one of my favorites: PinnacleŽ - Trout & Sweet Potato Recipe Premium Dry Dog Food

Good luck!

My puppy is doing well on Wellness Core Puppy..

Our breed is known for having stomach/digestive issues, so trial and error with different foods is fairly common for us.

My adult GSD's are doing well on the Taste of the Wild Bison mix...

The Honest Kitchen dehydrated dog foods.

The metronidazole may also give your pup diarrhea and may have put his GI system off balance. Did your vet give you a probiotic while on this? You can ask your vet for some low residue canned and kibble food, its bland and easy to digest. It may help your pups GI system relax and reset. We had lots of issues with our dog for about a year and a half. The Solid Gold puppy food was good for a while and also the Royal Canin GSD food, but we think our dog just can't handle kibble - she has no actual food allergies and The Honest Kitchen brand was our savior. We now add a prepared raw food too.

When all else fails pro plan sensitive skin and stomach. That food is awesome for sensitive stomachs. So many people I know feed it to their golden retrievers they look beautiful and all stool and stomach issues fine. I fed it for a good year to my Great Dane and golden. It's salmon and no corn wheat soy.
