Default Any good low-fiber food?

My GS (9 year-old) has weak anal muscles and the vet wants to limit the bulk and promote elimination. He sells Science Diet ID and wants me to start giving that to my dog but I have reservations. Other than that, my dog is healthy, gets 3 to 4 nice walks a day, has good appetite, but his slipped disc and pinched nerve issue from years ago may have created that weakness.
I just want to know if any of you know about such food options. I will do research anyways, but that could save me a little time. Thanks.

I'll answer my post as I've been researching and maybe this will turn out handy for someone else.
Evo Turkey & Chicken Meal Senior Dry Dog Food turns out to be the best, their ratio is CRUDE PROTEIN 42.1 %, CRUDE FAT 16.2 %, CRUDE FIBER 1.17 %, which is the lowest fiber content I've found so far. Most foods are around 4% or more.
And what annoys me with my vet is that he told me to put Malik on that Science Diet I/D, which turns out to have over 6% of fiber! I know not all fiber is alike but still. And I had real reservations anyways, first ingredient is corn! So I'm returning the bag and going for Evo, hoping Malik will like it, but we'll switch slowly.

What's the ideal level of protein for a GSD? Can food be too high and be harder on things like kidneys? Just asking.

You might also have more luck looking at canned rather than dry dog foods. Canned foods will be more expensive, but naturally have a higher moisture content and often much less fiber than kibbles. I feed my dog Evanger's canned chicken and rice, and the fiber values are not more than 1.5%

You may have already seen these links on evangers but if not check out the two links in post #4 in this 2012 thread. I think I've seen some other less than positive articles about them, don't have time to check at the moment.

Evanger's Dog & Cat Food Company, Inc. 5/5/11

Sorry, that's only one of the links, I'll try and post a link to the thread later.

Edit, heres the other link.

Hi Sindyeli!
The following list shows the fiber % in each food! A lot of them have junk ingredients (IMHO) like the one your vet wanted you to use, but Nature's Variety and Orijen are on the list! http://www.enzymediane.com/Dog%20foo...rices%2012.pdf

Note that the Orijen is fine for some dogs but others it gives loose stool.

Wean him very slowly on to whatever food you choose so that his gut won't get into a tizzy!

Good luck to you and your boy!
