Default how much to feed?

the rescued gsd i adopted weights at 24.5kg when i first saw him at the shelter

was really skinny. can see the rib cage and hip bones.

i had been feeding him home cooked food with 300grams and 300grams meat (either lamb, beef, salmon, chicken etc)

the last he weight at 28.5kg when i brough him to the vet.

2 weeks later now, he looks so much better though.

but now still can see his ribs though not as obvious as prevously.

he snatch food from my wife dinner yesterday when he just had his dinner
did i feed him enough?

vet check the teeth and estimated to be about 2 to 5 years old?

my neighbour estimated to be 6 to 7 years old.

this poor boy was tied to a tree in forest, waiting to die.

I'm no expert but was in the same situation as you with my guy. Rescue and was 22kg at 2.5years old and you get see every rib and hip bones. This was back last may, so 9 or 10 months ago. He's a picky eater when it comes to kibble so he gets some wet food and meat mixed in. Only eats once a day and will skip meals some days. I have yet to figure it out but he's healthy, blood work done by vet etc. He's now 34kg and it took nearly a year to put that weight on. Vet said that's the perfect weight for him and just keep doing what I'm doing. Certain foods will be eaten even when full so I'd say that normal he ate your wife's dinner

I can tell you right now though that dog will be loyal to you forever. Thank you for rescuing him. He will love you now that he's being fed!
