Default When to switch to adult food?

Hey Folks, my GSD male is six months and 59.5 lbs. Can I switch him to adult dog food? He has been eating six cups of kibble 'Taste of the Wild' daily. That is split into three feedings a day. Thanks in advance.

My vet told me to switch over at 7 or 8 months. Some puppies only eat adult food, so it probably doesn't matter when they are switched.

My breeder had us make the switch to adult food as soon as she came home at 8 weeks, they provided us enough puppy food for a couple weeks so we could slowly transition. I was told shepherds, especially those from larger parents like my girl, can grow too fast if on puppy food for too long, and cause joint issues down the road. So I'm sure your baby will be fine with adult food, just be sure to make the change gradual to be easy on the stomach.

Mine is still on puppy 'grin'. Large breed puppy so it doesn't have the amount of calcium that a lot of regular puppy foods do (which can promote too rapid a growth). I plan to switch .. eh ... when I get around to it. He's 9 months old and on Fromm LBP. I'll switch him to an adult at some point. I'm not sweating it too much yet.

I did try to switch my puppy to adult food when he was about 4 months old doing the normal guidelines and he got pudding butt really bad. I put him back on his large breed puppy food and he's been fine since then. The vet said GSD's can have sensitive stomachs so switch more slowly, 1/4 cup for a month of new, then 1/2 for a month new...and so on. So far so good. We're up to half a cup now.

We switched Ward at 6 months, but he had been overfed when we got him... eating about 6 cups of cheap puppy food a day probably... maybe more. He definitely had been growing too quickly.

I think we switched our last pup around 5 months, maybe even earlier.
