I was adding Grizzly salmon oil and vitamin e to my girls food but recently stopped after being informed by a nutritionist at a nutrition lecture I attended at my vets office that the mercury level in the oil is questionable since it's not labeled for human consumption. So now I'm paranoid about giving it to them. I was thinking of giving them sardines instead but would like thoughts and comments first.

Look for Sardines that are NOT from China. I think Brunswick. I feed Mackerel as well

this is speaking from a human nutrition standpoint but all oil/fish products are dependent on the raising of the animal as well as the size of the fish. sardines are one of the best fish for human to eat because theyre short lived and hence do not accumulate mercury as long as larger species of fish. also wild caught versus farm raised is important for apparent reasons. i would assume this rule of thumb would apply to dogs as well.

I give my dogs Salmon/fish oil that is human food grade. But I have heard the krill oil is an excellent alternative is one is concerned about mercury or other toxins in salmon oil.

I have also been told by my doctor, to buy only fish oil caps that are produced in the US or Canada..

I would go with a name brand, and as Diane said, made in the U.S. or Canada.
