Dog is 10 months old when to switch to adult food?
Yes, I know I should look at old posts, I tried after spending 5 min don't feel like digging more.
My dog is on Blue Buffelo large breed puppy, is it too early to switch her to adult? I keep hearing different things and I am confused, what is best for her? |
I would wait another 2 months or so... I have always waited till just over a year
|
I don't keep them on puppy food for too long. But I do switch them over to a food that is 1.0% or lower for calcium and phospherous. Fromm Gold Large Breed Adult is a good one but there are lots of others. There is a sticky in the puppy forum that shows the %'s of different food.

switch anywhere from a year to 14 months..Ive kept my dogs on it until 14-15 months..then switched them to adult

Switch at 18 months. He is still a puppy at that point.
However. most high quality grain free foods will provide all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients for any dog at any age. The major concern is dogs with special conditions, allergies or sensitivities. |
I switched mine at about 6 months. If your feeding a high quality food its okay. I even got it okayed by my vet with no problems.

I switched my dog at 6 months of age from Puppy type food to All Life Stages grain free food.
|
I switched at 4 months to an All Life Stages quality food (Halo) and have just recently gone to Halo's grain free Surf and Turf. Jazzy will be 6 mo old tomorrow.

I've always switched at one year from puppy to adult

Your gonna get a lot of opinions on this subject. But I keep my dogs on puppy food until they are 16 months. My vet says big dogs grow until they are 2 and need the different vity make up in puppy food. He specializes in large breed dogs and I have been going to him since 1981.
