Is hammered turkey necks ok?
Just gave Ava half a raw turkey neck. She seemed really confused so I then hammered it to smash it up a bit. She is still a little leary...any tips?

I usually will chunk a tom neck into thirds as a RMB portion. I've never smashed any RMB.
Why was Ava confused? Does she normally eat raw? |
I've had her on prepackaged raw (Nature's Variety) and am now slowly shifting her over to the actual real deal with bones and all. So I split her meal in half and added the turkey neck. She just looked at me like, uh you want me to chew this? Then I took a hammer and smash it flat. She ate half but it took awhile.

she gobbled up the green tripe (nasty smelling thing...i gagged and nearly threw up in her bowl) but ate only half the 4 inch turkey neck after it was smashed up with a hammer. maybe its the turkey she doesn't like? i feel like chicken necks are too small and she would end up swallowing it versus chewing on it. how do you encourage chewing?

Feed partially frozen or hold it when the dog is just learning. But swallowing a chicken neck isn't that big of a deal...they are small. I'd rather give a leg 1/4 and the dog will chew it because it is larger. I remember my pup(just 8 weeks)swallowed a thigh whole and I freaked, but he was ok, thank goodness!

Froze the other half and gave it to her about 40 min after we came back from the beach. Ava crunched right through it and ate it happily! Yea!
