Will try to keep this short:
Have had some issues with my (now) 9 month old boy being a very picky eater, we had a 2-3 week stretch starting right around Xmas where he didn't eat almost at all. Tried a few different things, and ended up settling on a food mix of Orijen Adult and Natural Balance (variety of flavors to keep him guessing). This more or less solved the problem, he eats pretty regularly now but is still a major self regulator. We have noticed lately that when he's at the GF's mothers house, he is ALWAYS trying to get at the other two dogs (small yorkie mixes) food in their crates and has actually started figuring out how to unlock and open their crates to get at their food. They eat purina pro plan with some boiled chicken and shredded cheese. I'm thinking about mixing in purina pro plan into Jackson's diet. I know it's not an optimal dog food, but I still plan on giving him AT LEAST the recommended serving of orijen twice a day, with just maybe 1/4 cup of pro plan sprinkled in. Mistake? Harmless? Somewhere in between? I know this is a "filler" food, but it would be completely for his own taste buds. His nutrients will still come predominantly from the orijen. ...So, yeah....didn't keep this short at all. I'M SO SORRY. |

How do you know he doesn't want the boiled chicken and shredded cheese?

Well, the kibble likely will retain the smell of those. My dog is picky too. I don't think I'd buy a food like that to get him to eat. I'd keep trying to find a food he likes. He may be a dog that likes his food switched frequently. I think my pup is like that, and it's not because I "made" him that way; I refused to make "toppers" or anything like that. He was on Orijen, and ate it, but it was clear he didn't love it. Found another food (Pioneer Naturals grain-free venison) and he LOVED it, then suddenly, mid-way through the second bag, stopped. Got him the whitefish one, and again, LOVE. I mixed the two. I'll probably end up rotating.
Just something to consider.

Yeah that's where I'm at with the orijen/NB combo. Haven't tried the new potato-less orijen formula yet though...I shudder to even think about it =0

No, I LOVE orijen and have no issue with them getting rid of potatoes. I still feed him NB flavors with sweet or regular potatoes so he'll still get some anyway. I'm just worried I'll be back to square one if he doesn't like this new formula.
