Default Feed High Fat Diet before Race Day?

This month on the 16th and 17th, Ozzy will be racing full time in a flyball tournament for the first time.

My first question is - is it a good idea to feed a high fat diet before race day (with extra physical conditioning in between)?

And secondly, should I start giving him the extra fatty food now? Or closer to the tournament?

Is this a thing that people do now?

Extra fat can cause pancreatitis in dogs. It is hard to tell the threshold of a dog when it comes to that. That would be my concern in going from one diet to another. Very painful.

I doubt you are feeding Ozzy Ol Roy so I am betting good, steady nutrition over time would be most helpful.

He's on EVO right now. The fat in the kibble is 22% and the EVO canned has approx. 40% fat. So even EVO canned would be too much? (I'm on my phone right now, but will read the links when I get home).

Add 4% fat cottage cheese as a topper if Ozzy is okay with dairy!

The cottage cheese or Evo canned I am betting would be okay - you also don't want him to get the squirts. That would be something as he ran!

I was picturing some kind of over the top fat preparation - butter sticks and things like some endurance runners use!

Okay. I'll start switching him tonight so he's dropping solids by the time he runs, LOL.
And I'm a crazy flyball person, but I'm not THAT crazy, haha!

There's a digital version too, so if could buy that one to read right away if you'd like.

That cracked me up . A training lickety stick made of butter. I can just imagine trying to clean THAT mess up!
