I am far from an expert BUT I would feed what ever the breeder is already feeding for the first month, even if you don't agree, then slowly make the change to the Origen if that is what you have chosen but I never would feed puppy because I want slow growth. I raised Ty on Origen 6 fish, and Storm on Acana Ranchland. I add NO suppliments, I add some raw as it appeals to me whenever, I add leftover scraps in small amounts, but every meal is the basic food...I make it a point to not always add, adn to toss in whatever randomly. They must learn to not be picky. So maybe an egg or cheese, or meat, but scattered, I always feed twice a day for life but a young pup I try 3-4 times depending on the age he arrives and condition of pup. Hope this helps

Orijen is a very good food - expensive, but good! I don't think you need the olive oil, and that's a very small amount of coconut oil. Generally, it's 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds, worked up to gradually.

Why are you feeding differently on the weekend?

Overall I think it sounds fine food wise. Supplement wise, I do agree about working up to higher amounts of coconut oil though. It's good stuff to have but as your puppy grows 1/4th teaspoon will be next to nothing to the dog. While I do feed olive oil on occasion, I'd personally swap the daily EVOO for fish oil instead, which would give omega 3's that are good for the coat, skin, heart, brain (especially important for a growing puppy!), and body in general. Mine get a fish oil capsule morning and night. You could do olive oil once or twice a week if you wanted. You also might not want to give the egg shells though, kibble and the Xkaliber have calcium in them and you don't want to overdo it for a growing puppy.

Thx Trudy,
I think my plan of over the first week to start to stay with with the breeder is feeding, just while the adjustment is taking place then transition from TOTW to Orijen. I am hopeful that he'll do good on it, if not then it'll go with Acana or Evo/Innova

Right now, their getting fed 3xs a day but with my work schedule, i am thinking of chging it to twice.

I agree that 1/4 is too small, i guess i should have said worked up to 1tsp. I will be working up gradually over a month's period. Going from 1/4 to 1/2 to 3/4 and then 1tsp. I want to do the chg slowly, just to make sure stool and all is good.

I do not what to go full raw or have the time and/or interest to do homemade raw but i do know that raw is good. Also, a premade raw from greentripe.com i know is good and the portions are set correctly.
I think it's good for a dog to have some raw in his diet and on the weekends, it's better so me economically.

Thx, I agree that the 1/4 is nothing, just want to work up slowly to make sure no ill affects. This way, if something happens on the gradual step up in 1/4 increments, i know where he did good and stop right there.

I am been reading more and also agree that stepping back on the EVOO and adding more Salmon Oil is a good idea and also think you're right the egg shells might be to much calcium, especially with a food like Orijen.
