I ran around barefoot, played in the dirt/mud, drank from the hose and ate veggies right out of the garden without washing them as a kid. I also played with a good amount of puppies in dirty lots (Not like hoarder, never cleaned dirty but we all know a dog lot full of large breed puppies ain't going to be clean very long) and no doubt put my hands in my mouth without cleaning them...That doesn't mean I don't wash my hands as an adult after I handle certain things. And surprise surprise...I'm still never sick. I do think some people take it to the extreme, like bathing 3+ times a day, but I don't think washing your hands is a bad thing. Especially when I'm pulling something "unknown" or raw out of the dogs mouth. I don't mind extra bacteria on my body, there are very few occasions that I'm going to bathe more than once a day, that's too much effort for the dirty life I live. But I'm still not going to pull something like a dead squirrel or livestock poop out of my dogs mouth and not wash my hands after. My body can be dirty but my hands will be clean, thanks.

I confess....I am not a hand washer. And I grew up playing with dirt, bugs, and who knows what else. As a kid my parents had to wrestle me to get me in a bathtub.
I have worked in the school system where I was sneezed on, coughed on and came in contact with lots of kiddie germs. Now I work in a hospital, where germs abound. I don't get sick too often. Oh, I do wash or sanitize my hands when at work....I don't want to be spreading germs around to those patients already ill.
