What are your thoughts on giving rawhide to your GSD's or dogs in general? When I worked in the pet food industry rawhide was considered bad for our canine friends due to digestion. Personally I never gave much thought back then and Im thinking about introducing it to my GSD. What are your opinions?

I don't ever give them to my dogs. They can cause blockages. That and the way they are 'processed' may have chemical residue. I think most shops quit carrying the ones from China, but you never know....
Go with nylabones or antlers. And most pups absolutely love a fresh raw beef knucklebone. |

Not a chance.
These are a good substitute (rolled cow cheeks), but without the risks. Fully digestible, and last as long as a rawhide. Bully Sticks - All Natural Value Dog Treats - Best Bully Stick

We give our GS Bully Sticks. She LOVES them, and always tries to sneak into the pantry to get more. They're fully digestible, though she is a chewer, so they last her anywhere from 10-30 minutes depending on the size.

I remember the very first time I saw them in the pet store, I was totally grossed out and thought "I will NEVER give that to my dog, it just looks and smells nasty" (as well as the smoked bones and pigs ears.)
Then later in life I started in reading about them ... I was really happy with my "gut reaction" ... raw bones, knuckle bones, bully sticks ... there are so many other healthier and safer options.

Nope not anymore. My oldest dog almost died when the rawhide got stuck in her throat. I was scared out of my mind when she couldn't breath
