Am I right in guessing that canines in general do not NEED any grains, beans, peas, lentils, or potatoes to be healthy? So they are just adding these things to bind the food and as cheaper filler/protein? How much carbs does a dog really need?

Dogs have no nutritional requirement for carbohydrates. Humans do. I think maybe pregnant and lacating bitches benefit, however.
