Default When\What to feed 1 yr old GSD?

OK, so my puppy will be 1 yr and 1 month old on the 9th. My question is mostly just if this is a good time to switch to adult dog food? I've read a TON of different ideas on this topic..some people say no over 6 months, some say around 15 months...it's confusing. Aside from this, i have been feeding him Nutro Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy, and i was going to switch him over to the Natural Choice Large Breed Adult. It says it has some glucosamine in it, and i know it may not be enough, but at least he's getting some rather than none. Any thoughts on these topics? Is there a better adult dog food i should switch him to that's going to be very close to the same price?

Thanks all!
Kelsey

Didnt do puppy food. Had them on raw at first, then switched to Orijen (which turned out to be kinda rich for her system) so switched to TOTW. She is getting 1 1/2c twice a day of that. She is VERY active and stays skinny on that amount. She is in that lanky, lean, malnutrition looking age. Tall and skinny.

Do you have any particular foods you'd recommend? My only thing is that he has a very sensitive stomach.

Haha, that sounds like my Orion! He looks just like that too. He's also quite the active guy.

Sorry I cant recommend what you should feed. When I went thru the great dog food switch I spent a lot of time looking at ingredients. I tried to find a good quality food that I could afford, I have 3 dogs. If I only had 1 dog I would go with a top rated dog food or raw.

After much research and trying different foods that would work for my Gsd and English mastiff we stuck with earthborn holistic. All the percentages/ingredients seemed perfect. We were with taste of the wild but they had some kinda of issue with there manufacturing plant that caused us to shy away. But for the price and quality we are very happy.

I'm a huge fan of feeding raw, and it's done really well for quite a few dogs I've had over the last several years. It made it way easier for me to monitor what things might upset one's allergies, and another's stomach issues, because I was controlling everything that went into their bodies. If you have the time to check around, you can often find a good source for lots of meaty bones and save yourself some money that way. I've found that I can feed much cheaper with raw than by buying kibble, and most dogs convert to it pretty easily (all of mine have LOVED it). Also, I've noticed that poop is less stinky, usually firmer, and there's a lot less of it - which are all a huge bonus for me (I think that's also true of higher quality dog food).

That being said, you really need to do some research and determine what is best for YOUR dog, and go with that. You might want to look into some of the limited ingredient foods so you can figure out which things are an issue for his tummy. Best of luck!

I don't feed puppy food at all. With my most recent puppy, I fed an ALS food that has grains until 12 months, then switched the "puppy" and my 2 seniors to grain free.
