Hello,
I currently have my dog on a raw diet and it is proving to be very expensive. I love all of the benefits of the raw diet however I am not sure how much longer I can afford it. I was wondering if I can get some suggestions on a good dog food ? Now before I just get a bunch suggestions I want to mention that I am trying to stay as cost friendly and as nutritionaly balanced as I can. I would like something that will give as close to a raw diet as possible. Also a side note I think my boy has pretty bad food allergies. He had a bad reaction to science diet. Some info on my dog is 95 lb or so active boy. Thanks a lot . |

I actually thought about feeding Koda kibble in the morning and raw at night. Right now, we are paying $2.40 (2. lbs) a day for food, if I feed Orijen (as I wanted to ) it will cost a full dollar more. Orijen is $69 per bag here before tax.
How about Canidae, TOTW or Kirkland Signature(costco brand)?

I feed raw in the morning and kibble in the evening at the moment. The kibble I feed is Taste of the Wild-High Prairie and it costs about $54/bag which normally lasts us a month. However, I am starting to get soooo low on raw food that I might not get to continue this for much longer. Worse yet is that I absolutely cannot afford two bags of kibble each month either.

Have you checked amazon for the totw? I don't know how reliable it is but I know you can buy it on there and I think its cheaper.we have an older shepherd she is a rescue and mixed with something so she is a little smaller about 70lbs, anyway we do dry in the am and raw at night with her. She loves it. However I am switching her dry food. How does the dry/raw mix work for you?

The only problem I have regarding the raw/kibble rotation is watching the weight with Nadia. She looks perfect at 73 lbs, but tends to weigh more like 78/ I can't cut her kibble down because then she will not let Z eat his-she tries to eat it all. Aside from that, it is a good combo for us. I get the meat off of craigslist-freezer burnt, etc or from an occasional road kill. If I could, I would feed venison and elk exclusively and if I could do that I would even be willing to cut out the kibble. Keeping meat stocked now, however, is becoming very difficult. I haven't had a call in a long time-since October (for a good quantity) so if the calls don't start coming in soon we might have to go to all kibble.
