Backstory..... I've used Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete for the past couple years with good results. I also supplement with raw.
I got a new GSD(4y/o female) in April. I put her on it & she seemed to do well with it. She had some intestinal issues back in Oct. & lost quite a bit of weight. We got those cleared up, but since then she just didn't seem to do well on the Diamond, so I switched her to Wellness Core Ocean(been on it 6wks). She is back to her old self, energy wise, nice shiny coat & firm consistent poops. My only concern is she still SUPER skinny & not gaining weight on this food. She gets 2 1/2 cups 2x/day. I also just started adding chicken 1/4's this week & so far no issues with it. Wondering if I should take a chance on trying her back on the Diamond, try another food, or give it more time? ![]() Let me add that I DO KNOW the difference between skinny, thin, & correct weight

Try a higher calorie food like Orijen or Timberwolf.
Timberwolf worked great for my last dog. Many here don't like it. Agree with the above post. I use Prozyme for my dog. It doesn't add weight but I think it helps more thorough digestion. |

A lot of dogs seem to have a hard time maintaining weight on grain-free foods. I'd definitely try her on a grain-inclusive food with more fat and carbohydrate. My dogs never did very well on Diamond products either. Might want to try a different brand. Maybe a 30/20 protein/fat food? Not sure what's available in your area though.

Jane,
She's been on a probiotic for the past couple months & all tests/labs have come back good at this point. Emoore, I think you are on the right track regarding the fat/carb content. I just haven't found a higher protein/fat/carb kibble that does not have corn, wheat or soy(things I WILL NOT feed my dogs). Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

NutriSource Makes a nice 30/20 kibble, as does Precise. . . um, Native does too. And By Nature has a 28/18.

I'm not a fan of proplan,,but check out the Proplan Sensitive Skin/Sensitive Stomache,,no corn, salmon based.. I used it for a time on my aussies, one who had skin issues,,they did amazing GREAT on it, however, it has a high fat content and they turned into little piggies
So I switched,,but other than the weight factor, I liked what I saw with my dogs
