Living in a third world country like Brazil, (although it has all the potential to be a developed country), I am sick and tired, mad at the dog food availability here.
I travel to the US and Europe a lot and I take my hat off to all Americans and Europeans and their love towards dogs and the variety of dog food available. Here in Brazil we have pretty much three dog foods available, one of which is imported. - Royal Canine brand (the regular and the dog breed specific one which I heard is nothing more than a RY propaganda scamm) - Eukanuba Adult - Hill's. Eukanuba is the only imported one and I was happy first because I thought it was made in the USA, but no, it is made in Argentina. Hill's and RC are made in Brazil and have huge amounts of transgenics/GMs in it and frankly, at least the USA has people and organizations that analyze dog food and rate their quality, here in South America, you have no such thing. My dog might as well be eating wood and plastic in those dog foods and I simply do not trust anything south of Miami or the most southern part of Italy all the way to the South Pole in terms of what I eat (except Australia), now imagine dog food. Oh, then there is Hill's which has already a horrible review in the US and Europe so I will not even try it here. THe rest are Brazil made stuff and one of those brands is even called "Streetdog"..... rolling my eyes. So my wife and I have made the decision to cook for our GSD and my question is: Cook what ? Quantity wise any ideas ? Brazil has decent chicken and meat availabilities. How do you prepare this ? Do people cook or rather boil chicken and steaks? Can I cook many of them an throw them in the fridge to serve for some days, or do you every single time have to cook fresh food which makes it hard in the early morning. What are your recommendations in terms of cooking for your dog, please, any idea would be very appreciated. In regards of RC and Eukanuba, he does not really like either. I usualy mix it with like a cooked egg or so that i mix the food in, that usualy gets him eating at least 4/5 of his food. Without this, he just eats once a day because he will not want to eat that food but still, hunger does overcome him and he in return eats in the evening when he does not eat in the morning. Which is worrying because I heavily exercise with my dogs, about 10 km walk a day plus playing (throwing freesbies and balls) and not to mention 3x a week teaching and obedience lessons/Schutzhund he will start soon. So he needs to eat more than once a day. Thank you Last edited by Sirscarecrow; 12-13-2011 at 05:55 AM. |

There is a forum that talks about feeding dogs raw food...it seems like quite a few members here do that. I'm sure there is lots of good information at the link below.
