Default Blue Buffalo or Innova 2011

I have a 4 month purebred German Shepherd. I was wondering, Blue Buffalo LBP or Innova LBP? Then Blue Buffalo LBA or Innova LBA? Innova LBA has more glucosamine than Blue Buffalo. So I was thinking Innova is better? Any suggestions? (Remind you this was posted in 2011, where Innova is now owned by Proctor&Gamble)

They're both similar type foods. Wellness super5mix is another one like Innova and BB that you might want to consider.

My advice is just flip a coin and try whatever comes up. If that doesn't work or agree with the pup... move on to the next. It's really that simple.

What are you currently feeding?

He was on a Gastrointesinal Prescription diet for diarrhea (even gave him 2-15lb bags) Then switched him to Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy Chicken, but I think he's allergic to something in it because he is itchy a lot and currently poops 3 times a day. (light brown color)
Natural Choice Large Breed Puppy Chicken has Corn Gluten Meal and Wheat Flour... Maybe that's what hes allergic to.

Does he have any gunk in his ears or does he smell funny? Those are typical symptoms of food allergies.

As for the large breed puppy... I'd skip those all together and just feed an adult formula. Innova adult, Blue Buffalo adult, or Wellness super5mix adult are all fine for your puppy. There's no real need for a LBP formula, it's basically the same as the adult formulas (which are really "all life stages" if you read the bag - puppy, adult, senior)

You might want to look into fish oils too. That can help reduce the itchiness.

No gunk or funny smell... Main problem is the stool isn't firm, light brown color, and poops 3 times a day. Even gave him ID prescription diet for diarrhea...

I use the recommended feeding amount on the bag, 3 cups daily right now. 1 cup at 7am, 2pm, and 6pm.

Just checking if you were overfeeding. Three cups a day of Nutro is probably closer to underfeeding than overfeeding.

Try the new kibble, whatever you choose, and see how that goes. Maybe try a different protein source, so if you're feeding a chicken formula now, maybe try a fish or red meat formula instead. That might help.

Remember when switching foods to do a slow transition. Don't just start on the new food especially with a dog who already has mushy poop.

Do a slow transition and everyday use a little more of the new food and a little less of the old food until you're 100% of the new food. Take at least a week or two until you're 100% of the new food. Good luck.
