I saw a new California Natural grain free. The salmon and kangaroo has peas and lentils for carbs, the chicken just has peas. Just wondering if anyone tried these and if your dog likes it and if the stools were OK. Never thought of lentils for dogs, I'm not a big fan of them for myself even though I know they are good for me.
We currently use Nature's Variety, Instinct, the carb source is tapioca which seems to work well. It's just that we must do a longer drive to find a store with Nature's Variety, vs. a five minute drive for the new California Naturals. I don't like foods with grains or lots of potatoes. |

I've always had very good luck with California Naturals. although I have not tried out that flavor yet (plan to in the future). My dogs do very well on the venison formula. I would think that all the fiber in lentils would make for solid stools.

I've always liked California Natural but I've only ever used their regular grain formulas. (Which is basically just rice for all of them except the fish formula which also has barley in it) I wouldn't use Kangaroo unless your dog was allergic to everything else personally. I'm ok with venison since my dogs diet consist of a LOT of raw deer anyways so things like fish and lamb are more "exotic" in our house. But if it's not something you normally use, I'd keep that as a novel protein as well.
Salmon would be a good choice though if you wanted to try it. |
