Default Value Picks of the Week

SportMix, you elitists can laugh all you want, but when was the last time your dog ran for 8 hours straight treeing coons or baying a 300lb wild hog. And, these dogs eat the cheap Sportmix, not the ones below.

Sportmix - High Energy Adult Chunk
Sportmix - Energy Plus Adult Mini Chunk

50 cents lb and the I know the black bag comes in 50lbs.

How do you think this compares to Eagle Pack? (....for us west coast people, who can't get some other top of the line foods from the east coast w/out paying $2 per pound) I see SportMix at my local feed store where I get my food, so this a option for me.

Made the switch to Eagle Pack (AT YOUR RECOMMENDATION) and Goose is doing great!!! Stools have been firmer and our daily 4-6 mile runs are going much better. I noticed SportMix has the beet pulp too, which is important for my dogs needs...so I thought I'd ask for your opinion.

Thanks!!

Sportmix is a good product made by a reputable company, same company as Earthborn, but I would take the Eagle Power Pack, if that is the Eagle Pack you are using.

Pro Pac is a step up from Sport Mix, same company, and Pro Pac Performance is a really good food.

What you are using is one of the best and it is a great value. If you run daily your dog is always going to empty his bowels early that is just the way a dog is. If he is firm doing a daily run, then don't switch.

Yes, I am using the 30/20...Eagle Power Pack. 40 lbs for $39 where I am at.

Yes, he seems to empty first thing in the morning and within 20 mins of eating.

Still waiting for Annamaet to hit the west coast...to be honest. After a lot of research, that would be my first pick. But it's double what I pay now, not because of the price point, but because of the shipping to So Cal.

As always, thanks for the advice.

Are you feeding twice a day? How much for the whole day? If you feed twice a day feed 3/4's of the total in the evening after all the activity for the day. I assume you run after work. I feed at 9 pm and 4:30 am.

I have, Native, VF Complete, Enhance, Advanced Pet Diets, Holistic Health Extension Black Bag, Blue Seal Pork & Barley

Dr. Tim's Kinesis & Annamaet Encore are a bit more but not expensive at all.

But none of these are 50 cents lb like Sportmix.

My schedule is ALL OVER the place.

I am a single male, 30. So I am always busy with something.

Sometimes the runs are in the morning before work (7 am) and sometimes after work. (7 pm)

Due to that schedule, I MOSTLY feed twice a day, however, there are some days I don't get home till 9 pm and it's once in the morning in that case.

We are only into a few weeks on the Eagle Power Pack, so I am holding it at 3.5-4 cups to see how he responds. I prefer to keep him on the lean side, rather than the bulky side.

I'd stick with what is working too if he's not having trouble on the Eagle Pack. That said, I use Sportmix (Energy Plus in the black bag that Sable listed) and love it. Chance ate it the last couple months of his life and did great on it! Eevee has been eating it since she was 6 weeks old and is growing perfectly! Good coats/skin, firm stools, good energy, clear eyes, clean ears, no gas issues, maintains a healthy weight, BUILT with muscle, ect!! The price is just the cherry on top! That and the fact Eevee thinks it's the best tasting kibble on the market! Soon as that bowl goes down and she's released to eat, she goes in for the dive and doesn't come up until the bowl, inside and out, is licked clean!!! I've actually put down other foods, including ones mixed with canned food...And she ate the plain Sportmix first. Crazy pup!

So far the Native switch is going well here. We got the level 2 and then add a few things in like egg or a bit of canned. It does have a strong aroma though, lol.
