Question 23% of Protein in dry food is hard to find ??

hi everyone

I'm new here so I would like to say hello to everybody. i'm a french Canadian from Laurentian mountain in Quebec Canada (Near Montreal)

Here is my concern. My breeder strictly telling me to feed my 16 month old girls with food that contain a maximum protein of 23%. It is verry hard to find. Rigth now i'm on taste of the wild fish formula but my dog is stratching chewing herself like crazy since 2 monts... She had no problem in the past with food but i'll think now she becoming allergic to this formula...

Someone know someting that is maximum 23% with bison or duck without chicken under 23% of protein. the taste of the wild duck formula has chicken fat inside so....

Thanks you for your input you have great day

Kev

WHY does the breeder say 23% or less? Never heard that one before.

Protein isn't what needs attention... calcium and phosphorus are.

Is it in your contract that you have to feed 23% protein or less?

There's a brand named Victor, made in Texas that has a 23% protein but it's not a grain free.

This seems like an odd set of rules. If a dog is allergic to chicken, chicken fat may be ok though. [had one of those]

Victor's a regional food only available in Southern states and a few parts of California; they'll never be able to get it in Montreal.

I would look at Nutram, Corey, Pro Plan and Eukanuba to see what is available in Montreal.

Annamaet and Dr. Tim's are available in Quebec. Those two would be the best.

I agree feed 25 - 30%.

I had the same issue when my pup had extremely down pasterns. Natural Balance has some good formulas that are under 23% protein. After 5 weeks on a lower protein kibble, his pasterns dramatically improved.

**Not sure if it's available in your area...
