Default Need Food Help/ Otto Is too Lean!

Ok fellow form members I need help!!

I need suggestions and help with switching over kibble. I’m completely stressed out over this (really I have been reading and reading) I'm concerned about my Otto weight. Otto is 20 months old. He is 30 inches at the shoulder and about 85-90lbs. He is being fed 3.5 - 4 cups a day of TOTW. He went for his vet check up in September. Perfectly healthy!

We walk in the afternoon about a mile some times longer. And exercise (train & play) twice a day about 1 hr each time. He is also more active scene I brought home my new three year old female (3 weeks ago). He runs around alot more. They are adjusting fine to each other. They both get their one on one time.

To me he looks thin and needs to gain weight. From what I read TOTW is low in calories and I need to move him over to Evo which has a higher calorie and higher protein content. What I'm most worried about is he is growing and a older puppy....

Here are a few Suggestions I got from Natura Pet Products:

Innova products will contain grains (blend of white and brown rice along with barley)
Innova Adult Large Bites (Turkey & Chicken or Red Meat)

EVO products are completely grain free (high protein and low carbohydrates)
EVO Turkey & Chicken or EVO Red Meat

Another I have been looking at for Otto:

Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete

Extreme Athlete Dry Dog Food | Diamond Pet Foods

Open to suggestions on food. PLEASE HELP. I'm confused.

Victor High Energy.

Victor Premium Dog Food | Hi-Energy

Price point is comparable to TOTW but you're not dealing with Diamond.

Otto's body build reminds me a lot of my Cash. Tall and lanky and lean. Cash ate TOTW and I never could keep weight on him at all. Unfortunately he had some digestive issues and the TOTW Pacific Stream was really all he could tolerate, but if he could have tolerated something with more fat, and calories I would have put him on it.

Also, don't discount carbohydrate for putting on weight. There's a reason bodybuilders cut carbs before a contest and low-carb dieters lose weight quickly.

TOTW Pacific Stream is what I have been feeding him. He does like that one the best. This last time I tried High Prairie and that didn't seem to do the trick. Are there issues with the Diamond Brand? Can you tell me details? Also Victor I haven't heard of before until now. It looks good from what I can tell. Have you had any experience with this food? Looks like its about 10 miles from my house in Dallas. Do you know of any where else to get it?

Dax was really lean so I put him on Medi-cal Gastro High Energy food, and it has done wonders for him. The difference was amazing. It is a vet-specific formula, and pretty expensive, but I just thought I would throw that option out there since I have had a good experience with it.

Victor is what I feed my dogs. I like it because it's made in Texas from USA ingredients by a small, family-owned company and it's reasonably priced. I drive a little over 10 miles to get it. I keep forgetting you city people think 10 miles is far!

Some people (myself included) would prefer not to deal with Diamond due to some quality and consistency issues they've had in the past.

Yes 10 miles is far to us city folk. Joise can relate with me on that LOL! Ok so I will drive over there today and get a bag. I'm also going to stop by the CityVet where I normally buy their food and see what else they have. Thank you so so much for your suggestions. Still if anyone else as suggestions I'm open. Like I said this has been driving me crazy...... who new dog food could do that to you.

Otto sounds like a good weight to me.

Sinister is 2.5 years old and weighs about 85 pounds.

He gets fed 4-4.5 cups of TOTW a day, if we are really active for the day he gets fed 4.5 cups, if we are not very active he gets fed 4 cups.

We rotate between all 4 formulas, but mainly use the bison and duck which are 370-375 calories per cup.

The Salmon and Duck formulas have a difference of 15 calories per cup

The Duck formula has the most calories, so if you feed Otto 4 cups of the Duck formula he will get 60+ calories more than he is getting now.

85-90 lbs sounds like an ok weight to me . What does the vet say. If he is thin and needs to add a few lbs then just up his food as long as he is doing well on it. Remember lean is good and @ 20 months old he is not going to grow any more he will fill out on his own.

Hmm, I feed Lukas 4 cups of the TOTW duck. He probably weighs around 90lbs. But he's not active at all, a regular couch potato.

The Victor only comes in 40lb bags. Part of how they keep costs down. If you buy a bag and he doesn't like it or do well on it I'll buy whatever's left from you.
