I have a question about my senior dog Kaos. Kaos is on a mix of Castor/Pollux Weight management mixed with some Wellness core, and about 1/4 can of wellness canned. He eats that way because as he has grown older he shows less interest in food, and with this mix he devours every meal. My question is on supplements, he is currently on
2000mg fish oil 1000mg Vit C 400 IU Vit E 2000 Glucosamine (with chondroitin, MSM) He has 2 torn cruciates which have developed arthritis since he was not a good candidate for surgery, so his "knees are shot" as the vet put it. I have noticed a huge difference after adding supplements to his regimen, he is also on Tramadol 50 mg 3-4x a day Rimadyl 50 mg 2x a day My question is are those good amounts of supplements for him, he is and always been with in 5lbs of the 105 lb range. Also if you are supplementing with those is something like K9 showstopper of any benefit or would you run the risk of over supplementing? I have read through other posts and I am aware that there are some who think it is of no benefit to supplement, please don't insult me if that is your stance. I am wise enough to know when I see a positive change in my dog as I have with his supplements. Thank you. Also I have read a lot about Apple cidar vinegar, would it help to add some to his drinking water occasionally? regularly? and how much? |

What are the doses of chondroitin and MSM? Is the chond at least 1500, and MSM at least 500?
I would actually double the fish oil, and vitamin E. Also, is the vit E D-alpha, or DL-alpha? DL is synthetic, and only about half is bioavailable. DL being synthetic is much cheaper. So if its synthetic, I'd actually triple the dose. You can also add borage oil, which is the supplement with the highest amount of GLA. GLA is an omega 6, but when combined with the omega 3's in the fish oil has a stronger anti inflammatory effect than either used alone. `
