What's your budget? What do you have available in terms of pet stores near you? Any costcos in your area?

No need to feed a puppy food. Just get a good adult food... it's fine to feed to puppies.

If you have a costco near you... i'd give their kirkland brand a shot. It's very easy on the wallet ($25 for 40#) and has pretty decent ingredients.

This is the 2nd thread today that someone has mentioned feeding a puppy adult dog food. Why is that? I always thought feeding puppy food was best? If adult food works, thats going to be a lot easier on me... I planned on trying mine, when he was older, on what my golden is eating now, which is Exclusive chicken & rice. If I can already start switching now, then that would be wonderful.

I don't think Iams large breed puppy food is that bad for your pup. If your pup is doing fine on it, I would stick with it. If he gets diarrhea, then maybe try something else.

I know a lot of people like to demonize Iams for being a big company or whatever, but they do do a lot of research for their foods (a lot of companies don't even test their foods, but Iams does). I think its a good product if you are on a restricted budget and your puppy has been ok on it so far. Just make sure to stick with the large breed formula.

That is because there is no need to feed "puppy food". Same with senior, less active, large breed, ect... I'm NOT saying that puppy food hurts them or anything like that, but it is definately not necessary either.

Yup. Puppy food, senior food, large breed adult food, etc are all unnecessary. Puppy food can be harmful for GSD pups if it's a general puppy food and not a large breed puppy food, as generalized puppy food often has too much calcium for large breed puppies. Either feed a good large breed puppy food, or an adult food. If you compare a large breed puppy food and an adult food from the same manufacuturer, you'll find they're nearly identical as far as ingredients, vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients.
