There are almost no kibbles that are PORK our even partially pork based other than Fromms Pork and Applesauce? Come to think of it, pork seems rare to non-existant in canned food too. Again, except for Fromms Shredded Pork Entree canned.
If there ARE in fact others, please feel free to list and/or post a link to them.

My dogs never eat pork (fresh) well. It seems to upset tummies. Maybe other dogs are similar?

Eagle Pack Original Enhance Addiction There are more than you think with Pork. The problem with pork meal is that it tends to be high in ash so making a food with more than 25% protein from pork meal is difficult. Most foods with pork have other proteins that are lower in ash. Pork is good if your dog has a real, but rare, allergy to other animal proteins. Last edited by sable123; 09-19-2011 at 03:41 PM. |

Ah, but I asked about kibbles and canned which wouldn't be raw. LOL { I am NOT trying to be snarky, hence the lol.} Though you could be right, maybe it isn't a meat that typically agrees with them even when cooked. Though personally I've never had a dog that had a problem with it cooked. In fact I thought of this as I was sitting here and Siren and I were eating leftover porkchops!

Well I don't think I would care for it raw either, lol. But cooked, I would have to say it is MY favorite meat. {And it helps that I cook it enough that I can get it DONE, but it is still juicy and not dried out and tough like an old shoe.}

Thanks gagsd and sable for the link and list.
Sable, I've never had a dog with any food allergies. I tend to have dogs with stomachs of steel.

Pork is a very good protein for dogs but because it is not as widely used, it is hard to get low ash meals in large amounts. If public perception changes, then maybe the food companies will invest in lower ash pork products for dog foods. This time of the year is great for bargains on fresh pork because the BBQ season is ending and you will find pork shoulders for next to nothing. Raw pork is very palatable and fatty and they love it. |

pork has some of the very worst record in how it is raised and farmed, the ultimate in intensive farming , industrialized type "factory farms" , lots and lots of antibiotics used. One composting operation refused the pig manure because the anti biotics shut down the rate of decomposition.
I do give my dogs the occasional pig heart , snout , and hocks from a farmer friend who does everything grass fed, naturally raised. In the von Stephanitz book there are accounts of the wandering shepherds being given still born or deceased piglets for their dogs . Carmen Carmspack Working German Shepherd Dogs |
