Default So... is every affordable food made by Diamond?

I don't want to highjack the other thread, so wanted to start another. I bought my dog Chicken Soup, found out it was Diamond, so we went with Premium Edge ( again, to find out it is Diamond). We prefer grain free, but Canidae was the only one affordable, and , well, they apparently sold to Diamond also, and it wasn't afreeing with my dogs all of the sudden! I guess I should have known it was too good to be true! I got the last two brands for $35 for 35 pounds ( chicken soup) and $28 for 35 pounds ( premium edge). Is there another comparible, with meat as the first few ingredients, and NO wheat or corn products. I figure I will be dishing out more money again, gotta do what I gotta do, but figured if there was something else out there worth it that is in the better price bracket, I would LOVE to hear about it sooner than later so I can get them on a steady food!!!!!

I just got conformation from Canidae themselves that they did NOT sell to Diamond, that they are still private/family owned as they always have been!!!! Just wanted to spread that ( still, wasn't agreeing with my dogs, so I can't use it, but thought it would be a happy moment for some lol)

Phew--I really like Canidae. We switched Havoc to Origen because he didn't care for it much but my other dogs thrived. Havs still eats Canidae cans.

Absolutely not. There are awesome affordable regional foods out there, made in your local area and sold in your local area. Two great ones in my area are Victor and Precise. Both are locally made, locally sold and family owned by families in Texas. Both are a buck a pound or less. Both have no corn, wheat, soy, or byproducts and don't buy from China. I don't know what's in your area, but you kind of have to go to your locally owned feed stores and pet supply shops to find them. They're not sold in PetSmart, PetCo, or Tractor Supply.

Canidae did not sell to Diamond, but they are manufactured by Diamond in Diamond plants. Canidae still owns the company, has control over the recipe, etc., but their manufacturing is outsourced to Diamond.

DoggieDad - When it is budget friendly, we do raw meals as much as possible!
EMoore - we have a feed and seed shop, they sell diamond and eukanuba I think, nothing local
Blehmann - yes, but they were very quick to answer the first question, but when I asked where there food was made/packaged, they never answer. I guess I should assume it's because they don't want anyone to know!

In my area, Royal Canin is 1 mile away. Diamond headquarters is up the highway about 40 minutes. I am thinking we don't have any quality foods made locally. But, I am able to have good food delivered UPS to the doorstep for less than it would cost to go get it.

Diamond does the manufacturing for many foods. Not every food company has individual processing facilities.

Acana is only a few dollars more than TOTW where I live. And far surpasses TOTW in quality

That is true. If you live in the Northeast (and to me everything north of Kansas and east of Georgia is Northeast) it's a lot cheaper to have food delivered. Seems like the further southwest you go, food delivery costs more.
