Default Probiotic Question

Not sure where this belongs so move it to the proper area if you need to

I have been giving Lincoln a probiotic pill once a day after his last meal. I was wondering if I can open the pill and mix it in with his RAW or if I have to give it after his meal? I have been feeding his meal then wrapping the pill up in a chunk of meat and giving it to him that way right after

But I was wondering does it really matter?

Depends on the pill. Some probiotic pills need to stay in it's original casing to ensure it is properly absorbed.

Ive read many things and I am just not sure which one to believe. The bottle says 30 minutes after a meal. It doesnt say you can empty the contents but it doesnt say not to either.

if it says 30 minutes after the meal, then do what it says...there must be some reason for it, no?

Which probiotic are you giving?

The one I give specifically says... "To maximize survival of the microorganisms, each vegetarian capsule is enteric coated to help allow passage through harsh stomach acids and into the small intestine".

Agreed, give as directed. There's a reason why they give specific instructions on when to give the pill.

I give a human one from Walmart. I keep it in the fridge. I didnt know if it was different for humans vs dogs in how they use them.

When in doubt, feed as recommended on the label! You could also try contacting the company and asking.

Is there a specific reason you're feeding a probiotic?

Yes, ever since he had a bout of Coccidia his gut hasnt been the same. So I like to feed it as kind of a preventative and something to help him out.

Hes the only dog on a probiotic in the house. I notice it helps him a lot

Ahh! Then yeah, I'd be extra careful and just go by the label then.

Though on a side note, being a raw feeder, is green tripe an option for you? It's great for promoting a healthy gut and aiding in better digestion.

I did order green tripe but it was taken by someone who ordered 400lbs. So next time I order I will make them pull a pail of it and put SOLD on it. I have been offering the Tripette canned tripe until I get real tripe.

I dont know if I could stop feeding the probiotic all together tho as he does well with it
