Default GSD Dog Food

Hello!!
I just wanted to share something with all of you and find out what your feeding your GSD. I feed my dog Solid Gold Wolf Cub, next week he will be put on Solid Gold Wolf King as he will be turning 1!!!! Whoo Hoo!!! Happy Birthday Sinister!!!! Anywho, when we first got our big boy he was 11 weeks old and the breeder had him on Purina Pro Plan. Well I did lots, and I mean lots, of research on that brand of food and found that Purina is NOT a good brand. I was surprised to find that alot of the popular brands are not good (I believe that everyone knows Kibbles N Bits is bad, no research needed for that one). Science Diet and Eukanuba and Beneful are also bad from what I have heard and from feedback from people that use it. So I found 2 that had some great feedback and figured I'd pick between the 2 of them, they were Nutro and Solid Gold. My friend has a GSD and he feeds him Nutro and his dog is in great health and he is a good looking boy too. But something caught my attention with Solid Gold, they say that their coats become brighter, shiney and soft. Their eyes are brighter and they have more energy. So I chose that and my boy's coat is absolutely stunning!! He's gorgeous! He loves his food, he cant wait to eat it, I love this food and plan on useing it for every dog I have in my life (as long as their tummies are ok with it) What do you feed your GSD?

I have had good luck with EVO dog food. I agree alot of the popular brands are owned by a big name company so all they want is the name and the profit.

We feed National Dog Food and Evo......National is NOT a grain free food, and does have carbs. However;...it has been a SUPER food for many of my dogs. Some of my dogs also are fed on Evo Red Meat....really impressed also...but extremely costly $$.
Never liked the Solid Gold Foods....did not do well by any of my dogs, but many people like it very much.

I feed some raw/dehydrated raw and kibble. I really like the Natura products, especially EVO. I also like Nature's Logic (although it's not grain-free and that's what I prefer). I haven't fed it yet, but plan on trying Orijen and/or Acana in our rotation.

My personal thing is that I refuse to feed anything manufactured by Diamond, so that eliminates a lot of foods (including Solid Gold).

Kimba does not handle grains well, so i stick to (in addition to about 3-4 raw meals/week) :

Orijen
Wellness Core
Acana Provincials
Nature's Logic (not actually grainless, but uses millet, which does not bother her) Love this food, but the others are more easily accessible.

I liked Solid Gold Barking at the Moon, Wellness Core, and Prarie Raw Instinct. I am currently feeding Kumpi. I am getting good results with it.

Meega gets Evo and is doing great on it. I have a boxer mix puppy and he is getting Whole Earth Farms, and is doing great on it. My parents have their dogs on the adult formal of the Whole Earth Farms as well and are doing well. I also like Wellness regular and Core, Orijen, Solid Gold Barking at the Moon, BB Wilderness and really want to try Nature's Variety Instinct, but have not been able to.

We do raw (do it yourself mostly with chicken quarters and chicken wings for the smaller ones) and then when we give kibble we give freeze dried raw on top from Stella and Chewy's. The kibble we are feeding now is Eukanuba. We have placed an order for the Kumpi to bring back into the mix.

We do give some Orijen as treats but can't give it as complete meals. The dogs get really bad gas on the grain-free kibbles.

We also give some Green Tripe on occasion as well as ready made frozen raw from NV and Stella and Chewy's. We also give some canned periodically.

They also get blueberry yogurt (they like the Activia the best) and a few pinches from what we eat.
