Never heard bad things on kibbles and bits before. That's what we feed our shar pei and our smaller dogs and their all heathy with shiny coats. And a 50 pound bag lasts 8 dogs free feeding almost month. What are the prices on some of these foods. I would be interested in switching if I can find a god quality that lasts jus as long

That is not a good food. Here's the ingredients for the Original formula:

Ingredients

corn, soybean meal, beef and bone meal, ground wheat flour, animal fat (bha used as preservative), corn syrup, wheat middlings, water sufficient for processing, animal digest (source of chicken flavor), propylene glycol, salt, hydrochloric acid, potassium chloride, caramel color, sorbic acid (used as a preservative), sodium carbonate, minerals (ferrous sulfate, zinc oxide, manganous oxide, copper sulfate, calcium iodate, sodium selenite), choline chloride, vitamins (vitamin E supplement, vitamin A supplement, niacin supplement, D-calcium pantothenate, riboflavin supplement, pyridoxine hydrochloride, thiamine mononitrate, vitamin D3 supplement, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12 supplement), calcium sulfate, titanium dioxide, yellow 5, yellow 6, red 40, BHA (used as a preservative), dl methionine.

You will pay more for quality foods, but there's more nutrition and less filler per ounce so you generally feed less, offsetting some of the higher cost. Less in = less out as well. It's hard to say how much less you'd feed because the website does not mention the kcals per cup so you can compare it to other foods.

wow. it comes close to qualifying as a vegetarian dog food.
herre is a chart with calorie contents of many foods on the market.

Kibbles and bits, as expected, runs pretty low. i also noticed it only had 19% protein, which is what you will get when there is virtually no meat in a food.

I paid about $60 dollars for a bag of Solid Gold Wolf Cub at Petco. It used to last me a little over a month. I just switched to the adult form Solid Gold Wolf King and it cost me $55 dollars at Petco but if I go to my local feed store it's usually $5 less than Petco.

Yes it does. It came recommended from another GSD owner and her advice was spot on.

If you are looking for a significantly better quality food for not much more than you are paying currently, check out your local Costco. You can buy good quality Kirkland dog food, chicken and rice, for $21.99/40 lbs.

Around here, it blows my mind that the crap foods (pedigree, kibbles n bits, etc) cost as much if not more than the kirkland food, and the ingredients are awful in kibbles n bits.

take a look into the health benefits of
giving a dog sugar and artificial sweetners and
compare it to your "spot on" advice.

No offense, but I've never heard of sugar in the small dose that is in the yogurt causing any issues with dogs. Can you provide a link to a study that says the sugar at the level in Activia causes harm to a dog?

The spot on advice is about probiotics...and yes she is "spot on".

17 grams of sugar in a small 4 oz cup of flavored yogurt. personally id consider that more than a small dose, especially on a regular basis.

i know in the long run, i like to limit sugar intake for my dog for several reasons. (dental, long term effects on pancreas and adrenal glands, among others).
