Default Slow growth plan

If I hear the word slow growth plan and your puppy is eating too much again ,I will burst! My Saxon is 7 1/2 month old.He weighs 69 pounds and is a big pup. He was big from birth on. He is gaining about 2 lbs. a week. He is eating 5 1/2 cups of food a day. I adjust his food by him looking too thin or not gaining the two lbs. He is definitely not too fat at all. He is just very tall. His parents are big too.
My sister has a Golden Retriever 9 month old and he gets 3 cups a day and is on the 'slow growth plan'. Which I get to hear every day and I get to hear every day that my dog is a moose and eats too much. Her dog is always hungry, always sitting by the food bin and getting treats constantly. He weights 60 lbs. They are two different breeds .They eat different foods. She doesn't get it that every pup is different. She also has a problem with him getting adult food and not large breed puppy from Purina.
Am I really doing everything wrong ? I think this slow growth thing is taken too far by some and the pups don't get what they need.

I went thru the same thing with my Sting. I was sticking to the package directions and he was always hungry. One day I went thru the drive in at the bank and the teller gave me 2 treats for Sting who was eagerly waiting in the back seat. She said to me "the big pups need 2." I went home and disregarded the package directions on the kibble, and fed Sting more. The result - a happy contented pup and I noticed that once he got his fill, h- he tapered off and then when the next growth spurt came, he eat more again. So I agree with you, do what is best for your pup and each pup is different.
