"Weird" behavior..?

Hi.
This may come off as a weird question, but it really bugs me. Before I ask, I think i need to give some background info.

The neighbor upstairs has a male GSD, Lord. Lord looks impressive, and quite scary. every time i meet him with his owner, the owner acts as is Lord will become this big monster and will eat both Kali and me. LOL. it might actually be true as far I know.

The other day, while taking a walk we met wit another man and his GSD. this man acted the same as my neighbor o_O

Kali wants to meet all the dogs she sees, so she would pull me just to reach the possible friends faster. she's only happy after they sniffed one another. and sometimes not even then, as she wants more.

Should i worry every time we meet a new GSD? should i expect her to behave in an aggressive way when she's an adult? Or the owners of the 2 GSDs we saw so far were just scared Kali would attack/get scared? Any input is welcomed. :)

Unstable dogs? Antisocial owners? Who knows, you can guess or maybe ask your upstairs neighbor some time. I'd just leave it, get socialisation from classes in a controlled environment, not worth risking an incident and causing problems for your dog.

oh, i definitely don't want to et near those dogs if their owners act as if it would be the end of the world. i just assumes the dogs are aggressive. [easy way out]

as for socialization, no issues there. as long as the dogs are not aggressive. and we meet with plenty of other dogs every day. all sizes and breeds. Kali couldnt care less the other dogs are 3 times smaller or 10 times larger. she wants to know them all. hehe. the more dogs we meet every day the more relaxed i feel when we meet them. we only try to avoid the stray ones.

It is possible they have a dog that just doesn't like puppies, or without manners, or one like mine ......

The owners may not realize tightening up on the leash can only make the situation/meeting worse. They should instead be blocking your pup and asking you to move her back. Since they aren't, get your pup engaged and busy with you, keep walking in a curve around the dogs staying outside their bubble. You staying calm with a 'no big deal' attitude. Prevent what is potentially a bad experience for your pup.

I would not recommend letting your dog just greet random dogs. It's not safe, and it's actually a bit rude. If you observe a dog and think it may be friendly, it's always best to ask if it's ok for your dog to say hi. If not, then do not allow a greeting. I would be beyond ticked if some random person let their dog run up to mine. Regardless of how dog friendly their or my dog was.

It's not a GSD thing, it's a 'most dog' thing... most dogs do not greet well onleash. Some dogs greet too over enthusiastically (which can also cause trouble).

Most dogs are leashed here, though occasionally some are not. all of them seemed interested in meeting with her. owners here seem to forgive. those who are not ok with dogs coming to say hello usually pull back, and warn.

im am much more annoyed at random people calling my dog to them. WHILE she's leashed and me trying to get her attention to me -her attention span seems to be 5 seconds, lol. people here seem so uneducated/unaware of the risks a stranger's dog poses. i never realized how annoying it is for the dog's owner hearing random people on the street calling their dogs [while on a leash] 'here, doggy doggy.' well i was tempted several times to do this myself, but i was scared the dog would bite me.

I behave the same way your neighbor(s) do. My two aren't well socialized. Smokey is male aggressive and Zeeva follows in his footsteps at like 10 times the intensity. I'm cautious and avoid other people with dogs, not because I myself am antisocial--quite the opposite--I'd love to be able to approach and be approached by other dogs.

The other day someone was walking their GSD puppy and I avoided them. He mumbled something under his breath about being antisocial. It made me sad. I wish other people could understand that not all dogs are approachable...ya know...?

aww, im kinda sorry to hear your dogs are aggressive and can't approach other dogs. i really appreciate your input on this. so my neighbor was simply courteous and trying to avoid real conflict. as was the 2nd man. a hug to you and a virtual one for your dogs, ;)

i never thought the owners didn't like to make friends, ;) i was really curious to hear what you guys think. in the end, we can only know how our dog will react, not all of them. and we are the ones to take the blame if our dog attacks...

My dogs are not aggressive but I don't like other dogs approaching because dogs are dogs and mine have minds of their own and I don't know if they might decide not to like a particular dog. It's just safer.

That's one of my top annoyances with people as well. I get so irritated when people try to call MY dog to them. As if it wasn't annoying enough that they didn't have the decency to address me first, they aren't even attempting to 'pet' my dog... they are attempting to have it pull me to them!

If I have a friendly dog, and someone asks politely to pet, I most always say yes. If I have a dog friendly dog, and another dog owner wants their dog to greet, and I assess the situation and find no reason to deny the greeting, I let the dogs greet. But if someone rushes my dog without asking or a dog rushes my dog on leash I'm going to get a bit hostile. I really don't tolerate rude behavior well :(
