Hi everyone, something has been bouncing around in my head ever since I had my first pure bred GSD and would like to see if you guys have some good opinions and or experience!
My first GSD as I said was a pure bred, she came out of WL (pure bred DDR), and her parents were, Mother - 90lbs, Father - 110lbs. Diesel was the "runt" of the litter and was female. By the time she was 6 months old and I had gotten her spayed she only weighed in at 39lbs ... when I got her second year shots done she was at 47.6lbs... A lot of people argued with me that there was no way she was pure bred due to her small, slender size. I knew/know 5 people who also had gotten pups from the same parents as Diesel... Her one brother from the first litter is tipping the scales at 133lbs! Her two brothers from her litter were (last time I had spoken to owner) were both 90lbs (ish lol) her sister from the same litter was 75lbs and her brother from the 3rd litter is over 120lbs... Diesel passed away at 2 years and 8 months old when she was hit by a truck 11/05/2012. So I didnt know if she was going to fill out anymore than she was (I had hoped that she wouldnt I always figured she would look weird being stocky she looked good being thin)... But now I have a new pure bred GSD from West WL she is also the "runt" of the litter. Penny's parents are both around 120lbs, very large dogs! So, my question is, will Penny be as small as Diesel was? Or was Diesel just a fluke that she turned out so small? Is there any correlation between runts and their adult size? Picture is of Diesel at 1 year old (snow) then at 2 years and 5 months |
