Default New puppy on the way

Hi everyone, we are picking up our first GSD puppy, Ruger, an 8 week old male this Friday. I just spoke to the breeder and was told he has "knuckling" in his left front leg. I haven't heard of this before but was told that it is due to him growing too fast at a young age. She told me to keep him on a low protein food for 2 weeks and the problem will be solved. Any input or suggestions is greatly appreciated, because at this point I am a bit nervous of joint problems further down the road. We purchased a 6 lb bag of the Royal Canin MAXI puppy food which I had planned on putting him on when we get him. But this has a crude protein percentage of 28.5%, right now he is eating Gravy Train, which I know is just cheap. Again any suggestions, concerns, comments are greatly appreciated thank you!

I'm no vet and I'm not really a food expert, but that gravy train he's on could be his problem??? Not enough calcium?

Hoping someone with more 'food' experience will chime in.

I would rethink buying a puppy from someone that would feed it Gravy Train!

Thanks for the advice everyone, it is appreciated. I have found this website www.greatdanelady.com all about this issue. We are going to put him on a strict diet as soon as we get him and follow this plan. I will post pics of his progress and keep everyone updated.

If you are worried about joint problems (which you should be) are the parents OFA'd?

I also would not buy a puppy from a breeder feeding Gravy Train, that isn't even food, that's garbage.

I couldn't help myself. I just get a bad feeling when I read that someone is getting a baby puppy that has "issues", then on top of that, is being fed junk food. No wonder the poor thing has a problem.

You haven't placed a deposit, have you? Because I wouldn't buy this puppy if I were you.
